We often say that the broken arch is a distinctive element of gothic architecture.

Indeed even if they were used before, they are so in a characteristic way in gothic architecture.

They are key elements of the structural solidity of gothic buildings, and their principle is also used in gothic ornamentation.

In this online course in 2 sessions, we will see basic arche shapes used in gothic architecture, and how to combine them in 2 shapes of bay windows.

We will also see one example of adding some thickness to the tracery on one of the bay window.

Finally we will see some ploy-foil examples to ornate the bays.

All will be traced using compasses and straight edge, using logic principles of geometry, similar to those used by cathedral builders.

This course is suited for beginners.
