A propos du motif

An example of a Gothic oculus (small circular opening in a wall), composed of 4 tangent circles.

This type of composition can be found on many Gothic buildings. Here, the inspiration comes from an oculus in the Basilica of Saint Bonaventure in Lyon.

Contenu du cours

If you have never done geometric drawing or if you have never explored the Gothic style, this course is perfect!

We cover basic elements that are found throughout Gothic ornamentation: trilobes (a small three-petal shape) as well as tangent circles that create the characteristic curves of this style.

We will also learn how to give thickness to the lines to add depth to the design.

All you need is a compass and a ruler, and no need for a large sheet of paper for this fairly simple pattern.
