About the Pattern

Learn how to draw this little Gothic window from the West door of York Minster, using only compass and ruler.

This combination of three rounded triangular shapes is very common in Gothic Ornaments. In this example, the overall shape is fairly simple, but there are a lot of interesting details that give delicacy to the motif. Also, compare to some other Gothic motifs, the use of an underlying grid is more obvious.

Course Content

We will aim at drawing this pattern in 1 session that will take around 3h (maybe a little less, maybe a little more).

The details in this pattern are a little tricky and require some precision in the drawing. Tracing it on a larger paper (A2 for example) can help.
